Card Validity |
Cards are valid in NSW. |
Cards are valid in NSW. Check Workcover NSW link here. Interstate card information is at the bottom of the page. The Western Australia card IS issued under the National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work.
|
Cost |
Workcover NSW charges us $20 if we do our own data entry into their system or $25 if we fax information to them to be entered. |
Workcover Western Australia charges us $3 per card.
We are still required to enter some basic details online.
|
Evidence of Identity |
Workcover NSW requires ALL participant to have 100 points of Identity, including a photo, Address, date of birth and Signature. Documents showing your first initial are not permitted and only original documents may be used. Documents must be made available to the trainer BEFORE we start training, and if you don't have the correct documents you are not permitted to stay. Certified copies are NOT accepted. A Driver's License is ONLY worth 40 points under the Workcover NSW system.
|
Before issuing the card, we need to check the persons identity - including name, date of birth, residential address and contact details. So if you dont have the correct ID you can still complete the course and get issued the card at a later date when you bring us the correct documents. A Driver's License meets all the ID requirements required by Worksafe WA.
|
Assessment |
We are required to use a specific assessment instrument, which is quite comprehensive and would take participants an hour to complete. Trainers would then need to mark these assessments on the day. That is a lot of waiting time for participants if we assume it takes 10 minutes to mark each assessment. |
Workcover WA does not have a mandatory assessment tool. We assess throughout the course using exercises and multiple choice questions.
|
| Pre notification | We are required to give Workcover NSW 7 days notice before we run a course. Any changes need to be notified to Workcover. If we make changes to the course within 48 hours of the course we must contact them by phone, otherwise we are breaching our agreement.
|
No pre notification requirements which means more time to focus on developing training, and less administration. If a client wants a course tomorrow (which they sometimes do) we can run one for them.
|
| Trainers |
A number of our trainers have told Easy HR that they are no longer interested in running training under the NSW system from 1 July 2012 when the new assessment tool was introduced. |
Trainers are happy to run this course to the same high standard that we offered before 1 July 2012. |
| Course Fees |
"RTOs and nominated trainers must not demand or accept a gift, benefit or favour for services associated with the delivery of GIT." (General Induction Training) We know what they mean, but charging a fee is a benefit and we would therefore be required to breach our agreement.
|
No mention of 'fees', except to state that we may charge a fee to replace a lost card. |
| General Administration |
Workcover NSW is extremely prescriptive in what the trainer must have with them. This includes a copy of the course administration guidelines, as well as the approved and mandatory forms to be used. This is more paperwork for us to keep after the course.
|
We are permitted to develop our own forms, as long as we keep track of who is getting a card - and Identity details outlined above. We can streamline the paperwork as we no longer have a 6 page evidence of identity and application form per participant. We can reduce our assessment down to a few pages.
|
| Course Time |
The course needs to be over a nominal 6 hours with a minimum 15 minute break. (which is far to short a break in our opinion - but we can make it longer if required) The time allocated for the break(s) is in addition to the nominal duration of six hours face-to-face delivery, assessment and course administration.
|
We comply with the course guidelines. Sometimes we may run for a little less time, if everyone can demonstrate competency. |
Statements of Training Certificates |
"The RTO is to ensure that a SOT is issued to each participant who successfully completes GIT on the day of successful completion. SOT must not be pre-filled or partially pre-filled prior to the completion of training." So this is a bit more administration that we need to do after the course. We can't even fill in the trainer's or organisations details before or during the course.
|
We can prefill cards before the conclusion of the course. Pre filling does not mean that we are deaming the person competent. We can destroy a card or simply not issue it if required. We still need to report the 'destroyed' card to Worksafe WA.
