Dealing With Workplace Emergencies

No-one can predict when an emergency is going to take place. If you manage a business, imagine a series of possible scenarios and create a proactive response for each. Your plans and procedures will help staff in the event of an emergency.

Emergency situations may arise due to a fire, explosion, chemical spill, medical emergency, natural disaster, bomb threat or violence.

Government regulations require building owners, managers and occupiers to provide their staff or occupants with education and training, so they are prepared to respond to emergencies promptly and safely. The impact of a crisis can be substantially reduced when people are trained to respond appropriately to it.

The following units will be awarded on successful completion of assessments:

  • BSBWHS406 Assist with responding to incidents
  • PUAWER002B Ensure workplace emergency prevention procedures, systems and processes are implemented

Participants may obtain credits for either of these two units towards a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety.
